Laser frenectomy
What is a Laser Frenectomy procedure?

A frenectomy is a commonly performed and minimally invasive oral procedure that involves the removal of a small fold of tissue called the frenum, which connects the lips, cheeks, or tongue to the gum or the floor of the mouth. When these frenula are overly tight or short, it is known as a tongue-tie or lip-tie, and they can limit movement and lead to various oral health challenges. Addressing these issues through a frenectomy can significantly improve oral function and comfort. The procedure involves numbing the area and using a precise laser, causing minimal discomfort or bleeding. Healing usually takes 2-3 weeks with post-procedure exercises to ensure optimal recovery. Patients often experience a remarkable improvement in their oral function and overall quality of life after undergoing a frenectomy.

How are Lip-Ties and Tongue Ties Different?

Lip-ties and tongue-ties are both caused by a short frenulum, however they are different conditions. Lip-ties occur when the frenulum connecting the lip to the gums is too tight, while tongue-ties occur when the frenulum connecting the baby’s tongue to the bottom of the baby’s mouth is too short. Both conditions can cause problems with breastfeeding, eating, and speech development.
